I saw a Phaeton last night on the Beltway! I thought it was a Passat at first, and then I realized I was very wrong as I got closer.

Now that I come to think of it, it was the same mauve color as the one on the left, and it does look like those cars have VA plates.

That might actually be the car I saw.
